A comprehensive diagnostic service for haematological and solid tumour malignancies for the NHS Eastern Region

The Haematopathology and Oncology Diagnostic Service (HODS) is a clinical laboratory based at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Trust's Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and provides an integrated comprehensive diagnostic service for haematological malignancies. We serve hospitals in the East Anglia Cancer Network and the Midlands, in addition to receiving referrals from across the UK and Ireland. We are a Consultant-led service, bringing together morphology, histology, flow cytometry, molecular genetics and cytogenetics sections under one roof to provide a fully integrated service for accurate diagnosis and classification, prognostic assessment and disease monitoring.

A growth area over recent years has been molecular genetic testing for solid tumour malignancies, including tumour biopsy micro-dissection and genetic screening using targeted next-generation sequencing.

Having all the appropriate diagnostic modalities in one place is the best way to ensure diagnostic accuracy and therefore optimum patient outcomes. We are able to produce a comprehensive integrated report compliant with Improving Outcomes Guidance.

The HODS Clinical Director is Dr Mike Scott, Deputy Clinical Director is Dr Hesham Eldaly, and the senior laboratory manager is Dr Lizz Grimwade.
